Commissioner for Health lauds the level of progress at FMC Ikole-Ekiti

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani lauds the level of progress in infrastructure and service delivery at the Federal Medical Centre, Ikole-Ekiti.
Dr. Oyebanji made this known while delivering a speech during a courtesy visit to the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Ikole-Ekiti, Prof. Johnson Dare Ogunlusi at the hospital facility on 22nd May, 2025.
He expressed admiration for how clean and serene the hospital environment is and further commended the Medical Director and the Management team of FMC Ikole Ekiti for their commitment and efforts towards making the hospital a reference point of medical service in the country.
‘First thing I am impressed with is the value you place on neatness, and the second thing is the improvement I have seen from the last time I was here. How I measure the performance is by what I see in terms of equipment, and I am glad a lot is going on here,’ he said.
He also commended the improvement in service delivery, adding that the inflow of patients is a testament to the fact that the hospital is living up to its mandate of being a centre of excellence.
‘When I went to the wards, I noticed an improvement in the number of patients. This is an indication that the people are appreciating the work you and your team are doing,’ he added.
Prof. J.D. Ogunlusi, when delivering his welcome address, thanked the Commissioner for the visit and also expressed his appreciation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for the establishment of FMC Ikole-Ekiti.
He further expressed gratitude to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Dr. Adedamola Dada, Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta and Dr. Tunji Alausa, the former Minister of State for Health, for granting him the opportunity to serve and contribute his quota in healthcare service delivery in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.
While briefing the Commissioner on the progress the hospital has made since inception, he disclosed that the hospital has received approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to commence Nursing Internship training in the hospital. ‘The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria was here earlier this month on accreditation exercise, and two days ago, we received a letter of approval from NMCN to commence internship training for nurses.’
He further highlighted the strategic plan of the hospital to include the establishment of the School of Nursing, commencement of medical internship, and residency programme soon. He also assured the Commissioner of the hospital’s willingness and readiness to partner with the State government in fostering quality healthcare delivery to the people of Ekiti.
