About Family Medicine
Family Medicine specialises in delivering comprehensive health care to patients of all ages, from infants to older adults. Our family physicians are well-equipped to diagnose and manage a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses.
We also offer preventive care, screenings, and wellness exams. The Department serves as the hospital’s primary outpatient clinic, where patients are evaluated, treated, and then directed for further care, admission, or specialist referral if need be.

Geriatrics Unit
Our goal is to be a reference center of excellence in the care of the elderly while deploying the latest knowledge and expertise in geriatric care in meeting the diverse medical needs of our most senior citizens.
We provide holistic care for elderly patients (aged 60 years and above) in both our outpatient and inpatient clinics. We specialize in the assessment and management of geriatric conditions, which include cognitive decline, mobility issues, heart disease, hearing loss, and many other age-related ailments.

Profile
Dr. Omotayo Afolayan was born on the 21st of September over four decades ago in Lagos, Nigeria. A native of Otun Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State. He had his Primary and Secondary Education in Lagos State before proceeding to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree in March 2006.
Professional Background:
After his compulsory National service (NYSC), He got employed at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, Nasarawa State, as a Medical Officer. He had his residency training at the Department of Family Medicine, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), and obtained the prestigious fellowship certificate of the West African College of Physicians in Family Medicine (FWACP-FM) in 2021. He also obtained a certificate in Geriatrics (June 2024) from the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.
He joined the services of the Ekiti State Hospital Management Board in 2021 as a Consultant Family Physician to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikole, now upgraded to Federal Medical Centre Ikole-Ekiti.
Leadership Experience:
- He served as the Vice Chairman of the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON) Ekiti State Chapter and also a Member, Education Committee, NMA Ekiti (2022-2024);
- Member, Health Week Committee, NMA Nasarawa State Chapter (2010).
Academic Qualification:
- Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Family Medicine (FWACP-FM).
- He has a special interest in Generational Medicine, hence the additional certificates in Geriatric Medicine (2024) and another certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research (Geneva, 2017). He has been involved in many volunteer medical outreach programs both within and outside the state.
He pioneered the Geriatric clinic at the hospital, which currently runs every tuesday; introducing a new model of comprehensive care for older adults. He also currently heads the health insurance department (NHIA) of the hospital with about 15 staff.
