Our Clinical Achievements

FMC Ikole-Ekiti Performs Successful Knee Replacement Surgeries.

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ikole-Ekiti, achieved a major milestone by successfully performing total knee replacement surgeries. The first surgery was performed on a 70-year-old woman who had endured years of knee pain, on 1st February, 2025. This was barely six months after the hospital commenced operation.

The patient, who for a very long period of time prior to the surgery had struggled with walking but started walking three days after the surgery. The patient has fully recovered and has resumed her daily activities.

Following the success of the first knee replacement surgery performed in February 2025, a 74-year-old woman suffering from severe knee pain approached the hospital in May 2025 for treatment. The patient’s condition was evaluated by our specialists, and she had a Total Knee Replacement surgery on 24 May, 2025. She has fully recovered and is walking without any form of support.

In keeping up with its commitment to continually break new frontiers and bring qualitative healthcare services closer to the people, FMC Ikole-Ekiti on 2nd May, 2025 performed a revision laminectomy on a 65-year-old woman who had severe back pain following a surgery she had in 2023 at a different facility. Following her initial surgery, she had been unable to stand or walk, leaving the patient incapacitated for about two years.

She was re-evaluated by our team and had a revision laminectomy done on the 2nd of May, 2025. The patient has regained the ability to stand and also walk without pain.

In a similar development, a 56-year-old woman with chronic back pain, which affected her ability to perform her daily routine, had a laminectomy at FMC Ikole-Ekiti on 13th June, 2025.

The patient has now resumed normal activity, and her quality of life has improved significantly.

These clinical achievements are in tandem with the mission statement of the hospital to drive excellence in health, training and research and has brought qualitative healthcare closer to the people.
