History of the Federal Medical Centre Ikole Ekiti.
The hospital was founded to provide basic healthcare services to the people of Ikole and its environs. During this period, it laid the foundation for its future development.
With the creation of Ondo State in 1976, the hospital’s ownership and control were transferred to the new state. In 1979, it was redesignated as General Hospital Ikole, expanding its services to include secondary healthcare.
The creation of Ekiti State in 1996 brought another significant change, with the hospital coming under the Ekiti State Hospitals’ Management Board. In 2001, it was upgraded to State Specialist Hospital, Ikole, with enhanced facilities and equipment to provide specialized medical services.
On July 5, 2024, the hospital was converted to a Federal Medical Centre, marking a significant milestone in its evolution. This upgrade was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ekiti State Government and the Federal Government.
Since its commencement of operation as a Federal Medical Centre, the hospital has made significant strides in delivering exceptional healthcare services. Notably, it has successfully performed complex procedures such as Knee Replacement Surgery, Laminectomy, and Bowel Resection, among others.
Today, Federal Medical Centre, Ikole-Ekiti continues to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the people of Ekiti State and beyond, building on its legacy of growth and development.
