NMCN approves training of Intern Nurses in FMC Ikole-Ekiti

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ikole-Ekiti, has secured the approval of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for the training of Intern Nurses in the hospital.
This was made known by the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr Ndagi Alhassan, during the council’s accreditation visit to the hospital on 6th May, 2025.
Dr. Ndagi expressed utmost satisfaction with the level of readiness, professionalism and the facilities he met at the hospital, adding that the hospital has made tremendous progress despite it being less than one year in operation.
‘’I am amazed by what I have seen so far. When we went round, we met everybody at their respective points of duty, and they were all up and doing. The level of progress I saw caused me to ask if FMC Ikole-Ekiti was one of the three Federal Medical Centres approved last year,’’ he said.
While conveying the council’s approval to the Management of FMC, Ikole-Ekiti, Dr. Ndagi extolled the exemplary leadership of the Medical Director, FMC Ikole-Ekiti, Professor J.D. Ogunlusi and his team for their dedication and commitment to service.
He further applauded the judicious use of funds in the hospital and thanked the Medical Director, FMC Ikole-Ekiti, for his sacrifices and commitments towards making the hospital a world-class centre of medical excellence.
Professor J.D. Ogunlusi assured the accreditation team of his resolve to ensure the hospital remains a centre of excellence in medicare services. He added that the hospital is poised to offer qualitative healthcare services at an affordable cost.
Professor Ogunlusi highlighted the achievements of the hospital in less than one year of its operation to include, successful completion of complex surgical procedures such as Knee Replacement Surgery, Spinal Surgery and many other lifesaving procedures.
We have been doing a lot of procedures in the hospital. We have done a knee replacement just after six months of commencement of operation and have successfully done two spinal surgeries,’’ he said.
Speaking on the readiness to commence Nursing Internship, he affirmed that the hospital has made adequate provision for both accommodation and other logistical needs that would make it conducive for intending interns.
We have secured a building directly opposite the hospital that we will use to accommodate our interns whenever they come. We have put in place measures that will help our staff settle in comfortably,’’ he stated.
Also in attendance at the accreditation meeting were the Head of Clinical Services, FMC Ikole-Ekiti, Dr. Rosiji Babatunde, Director of Accounts and Finance, NMCN, Dr Tokunbo Daniel, Director of Statistics and Accreditation, NMCN, Awe Adekemi, Director of Nursing Services, Ekiti State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Akute Yewande, and the Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Ekiti State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Falana Rachael
Other attendees include the Acting Head of Account and Finance, FMC Ikole-Ekiti, Mr. Akinbode Gbenga Kole and the Head of Nursing Services, Chief Opaaje Julius Olubunmi.
