THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Professor Johnson Dare Ogunlusi, a native of Kota-Ekiti in the Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State, was appointed as the pioneer Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ikole-Ekiti, on 12th July, 2024 in an acting capacity. He was subsequently confirmed as the substantive Medical Director on 20 October 2024.
Professional Background:
Professor J.D Ogunlusi is a seasoned and distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon / Traumatologist and an academician with 36 years of experience in medical practice, teaching and research in several countries, which include Nigeria, The Gambia, Trinidad and Tobago, Ethiopia and Saint Lucia. He worked in St. Lucia for 10 years before returning to Nigeria to contribute his quota to healthcare development in the country. In 2010 was among the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) team that was in Haiti on a rescue mission during the earthquake that devastated Haiti.

(EKSUTH). 2018-2020. - Head of Anaesthesia Department of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) 2020-2021.

University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH). 2022-2024.
Academic Qualification:
- He attended Aquinas College, Akure, and the University of Jos where he obtained Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He did his residency in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
- He is Fellow of Orthopaedics and Trauma of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
- Fellow of International College of Surgeons (FICS).
- He has fellowship in Pelvic Trauma and Acetabulum from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
- Member of Orthopaedic and Trauma Association (OTA).
- Member of Nigeria Medical Association.
- Member of Saint Lucia Medical Council.
In less than one year of assuming office as the pioneer Medical Director, FMC, Ikole-Ekiti, he has repositioned the hospital to a leading centre of excellence in comprehensive healthcare delivery in Ekiti State.
Achievements:
- Successfully overseeing performance of procedures such as, Laminectomy and Knee Replacement surgeries within the shortest time of the hospital’s establishment.
- Upgrade of hospital equipment and old amenities.
- Upgrade of hospital’s bed-space capacity.
- Secured the approval of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for Nursing Internship Training.

- The office of the Medical Director provides responsible leadership for the hospital and handles the execution of policies and matters affecting the day to day management of the affairs of the hospital
- The office of the Medical Director develops and implements the vision and mission of the hospital. It is the repository of the hospital’s clinical and administrative policies.
- It oversees the management team with regard to clinical, administrative and financial operations of the hospital and provides a strategic plan towards attaining the short term, midterm and long term objectives of the hospital.
- It also partners with stakeholders to ensure quality healthcare delivery. This partnership includes collaboration with policy makers, research institutes, sister health agencies, regulatory bodies, community leaders and supervisory authority with the aim to provide or gain support that is geared towards providing qualitative healthcare services.
