The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Ikole-Ekiti, Prof. Johnson Dare Ogunlusi, has declared an uncompromising stand against corruption. This was contained in a speech delivered at the inauguration ceremony of the hospital’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), which was held on Wednesday, 22nd October, 2025, at the hospital premises.
The Medical Director, who was represented by the Head of Clinical Services (HCS) at the hospital, Dr Rosiji Babatunde, affirmed that his vision is to build a system that supports the judicious, accountable and transparent utilisation of public resources.

‘Every member of staff within the circumference of this hospital knows I have zero, and I repeat zero tolerance for corrupt practices. My vision and goals, as the Medical Director of this centre, are to build a centre where every penny that comes in is judiciously spent for the purpose it was meant for,’ he said.
He further emphasised that as part of efforts to ensure a corruption-free system, he has implemented certain policies and procedures, such as the establishment of the Compliance Unit, creation of designated pay points for bill payment and strict adherence to extant rules and hospital policies to ensure that everyone in the hospital acts within the ambit of the law.
‘I have already set in motion, even before the institutionalisation of ACTU, mechanisms to ensure the transparent and accountable use of government resources. One of those measures includes the establishment of a Compliance Unit to ensure strict adherence to extant rules, laid down public procurement procedures, and compliance with both hospital policies and public service rules.
There is nowhere in this hospital today where any individual is permitted to receive payment from patients in cash or into personal accounts. The only designated payment receiving authorities are the payment points in the Outpatients Department and the Account section. The essence of taking this measure is to forestall the tendency to divert public funds.’
Prof. Ogunlusi charged the newly inaugurated members of ACTU to perform their duty diligently without fear or favour, adding that their appointment to the role was done having been considered worthy in both skills and character.
‘To the men and women who have accepted the challenge of serving on this Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, your appointment to the Unit is a testament to your integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment to public service.
Your mandate is clear and uncompromising, you must look into every corner without fear or favour, regardless of the office or influence held by those involved. There will be no sacred cows in this endeavour,’ he stressed.
While delivering the goodwill message of the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Commission (ICPC), Dr. Adamu Aliyu, the representative of the chairman, Mr Tiku Andrew Menge thanked the management of the hospital for organising the inauguration ceremony, adding that move is a clear indication of the management’s desire to create a new paradigm in the war against corruption.
He assured the management that the establishment of the unit would complement its efforts in building a new culture of transparency and accountability in public service.
While delivering the vote of thanks, the newly inaugurated chairman of the unit, Dr Onjefu Stephen Anya, appreciated the management of the hospital for counting them worthy of being saddled with the responsibility of championing the fight against corruption.
He also relayed the resolve and readiness of the unit to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
Other members of the unit that were inaugurated are: Mrs Alutundu Kehinde Yinka as Secretary, Mr Fatodun Adebayo, Mrs Adeosun Florence and Badmos Babatunde as members.
